Remembrance

The artwork seen here was produced during a project called Remembrance.  As part of a local history study, Years 5 and 6 looked at local memorials and in particular the memorial in St Peters Church Ightham which remembers Thomas Riversdale Colyer-Fergusson of Ightham Mote who was awarded the Victoria Cross.  We also compared letters written by soldiers to an extract from Michael Morpurgo's book "Private Peaceful" in which a gas attack is described.  The children were profoundly affected by this project and many carried out extra research at home.  The paintings and letters in the Church of the Good Shepherd and Borough Green Library are their tributes to the soldiers who made so many sacrifices during the Great War.  Please visit the Gallery on our website to see more photographs.
