Stone Age Workshop

On Monday 11th September two Stone Age visitors (otherwise known as Corinne and Tim from Living History Workshops) took us on a trip back in time to pre-history.

The school hall was transformed into a scene from the Stone Age complete with animal skins, a stone circle for ceremonies, costumes, rock displays, a medicine making area and tool construction site.  The day began with the discovery of a 'body': a Stone Age man discovered with his arm pointing out of the snow in Italy; our 'body' looked suspiciously like Chloe from Year 4, however, with her aid we learnt lots about how historians know so much about life in this era.  We went on to try many of the Stone Age people's daily activities: drilling through rock, making clay pots, stripping willow bark to make a painkiller, creating tools and identifying the uses of some strange objects.  Groups even devised different ceremonies around the stone circle - some quite gruesome and others familiar like a christening celebration.  It was a brilliant day and launched our Meet the Flintstones Experience perfectly.  To see more photographs, visit the Year 3 / 4 gallery.
