Year 1 & 2 - Bay, Myrtle and Willow classes

Dear Parents and Children,

Welcome to Terms 5 and 6 at Borough Green Primary School. 

Learning Curriculum

Maths: We will be following the topics in the New Curriculum for years 1 and 2.  Our topics will be Number and Place Value, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Measures (including capacity, money and time) and Data Handling, Fractions and Shape. 

Literacy: This term we are exploring texts that relate to our new Learning Experiences and will include The Pirates Next Door, Peter Pan, Treasure Island and a selection of other pirate stories. Later in the Term we will be exploring stories with coastal settings and animal and plant stories and information texts.

Geography and History: We will be thinking about seaside holidays in the past and human and physical geographical features relating to the seaside. We will also be comparing different countries with the UK as part of a whole school Geography project.

Science: Our work this term is based on naming and classifying common animals and plants during our Let’s Go on Safari experience.

RE: This term we will continue to explore Judaism including the Jewish festivals. Alongside this we will continue to learn more about Christianity with an emphasis on Bible stories relating to the sea.

DT and Art: In Design and Technology we will be designing and making a bug hotel. In Art we will look at different artists and the way they have represented the sea in their work. We will also be creating an outdoor sculpture entitled “Nature”.

In Computing we will begin to develop our understanding of programmable toys and using algorithms for an avatar.

In Term 6 we will also go on our School Trip and welcome you to share KS1 Sports Day
