Kent Traffic Police Visit
To finish our study of the ways societies have dealt with crime and punishment throughout history, we were visited by two experts in the field!
Richard and John from Kent Traffic Police visited us on Wednesday 27th February bringing with them a full kitted out motorway vehicle, a stinger and even a drone.
The visit was part of the Year 5/6 Learning Experience Crime and Punishment and was a very informative way to end our unit and compare the work of the police today to the very different crimes encountered by the first policemen in Victorian England. Richard and John taught us about road safety, helping our parents to drive safely and about the role of the police.
Year 5/6 asked intelligent and thoughtful questions, many about the role of a police officer as well as the route to becoming one. Richard and John both said that they were inspired to become police officers because they wanted to help people but that learning to drive at speed safely was also a bonus! Richard has even trained to operate a drone and he demonstrated his skills on the playground at the end of their time with us. The photograph above was taken by the drone as it hovered over us.
We are very grateful to Richard and John for the time they spent with us and the important message that the police can always be approached and respected but never feared. Visit the Gallery to see more photographs.
