Governors
Welcome message from the Chair of Governors
Dear Parents, Carers, and Staff,
Firstly, by way of introduction, my name is Charles Copping, and I was re-elected as Chair of the school's governing body, at the board meeting on Thursday 19th September 2024. As Chair of Governors, I am excited to continue to be part a of our vibrant school community and to support the outstanding efforts of our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and talented students and to be working with such a professional team of staff and governors.
Our shared goal is to provide an exceptional learning environment where every child can thrive. The partnership between parents, carers, staff, and governors plays a crucial role in achieving this. Your input, support, and engagement are invaluable as we work together to ensure the success and well-being of every student.
We are fortunate to have an incredible team of staff who are passionate about education and deeply committed to nurturing each child’s potential. As governors, we are here to support them in every way possible, ensuring that the school is well-led, well-resourced, and focused on the best outcomes for all.
Thank you and Welcome
I would like to thank Claire Nash for her hard work and dedication as Co-Chair over the last year. Claire is stepping down as a Co-Chair but is remaining a part of the Governing Body. My thanks also to Stephen Cole (who was re-elected as Vice Chairman), our Clerk and all Borough Green Governors who continue to go above and beyond and work extremely hard behind the scenes. I also want to welcome Mrs Jackson and all our new teachers, TAs and school staff who recently joined us and say a huge thank you to staff who worked extremely hard over the summer break and into the academic year. As well as our regular monitoring activities, this academic year will see us appoint a new Deputy Headteacher who will commence in January 2025. Now that our Headteacher, Mrs Jackson, has settled in, Governors will be working closely with the school to determine what its vision, ethos and strategic direction will be going forward. These are exciting times for the school and I am looking forward to playing a vital role in both of the above activities.
What is the role of Governors / the Governing Body?
Governors are volunteers and our main role is to work with the school ensuring that your children receive the best education in a supportive and safe setting. The Governing Body is involved with our school at every level. This includes finance, safeguarding, premises management and staff appointments. As Governors, we consider our most important role to be the safety, welfare and education of our pupils. The Governing Body concentrates on three key areas:
Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
The governing body meet each term and visit the school to undertake monitoring visits and other activities over the course of the academic year.
For further information about the work we do, we encourage you to look at the school website: https://www.bgpschool.kent.sch.uk/page/?title=Governors&pid=36.
Where can you find us?
Governors attend many of the school's events throughout the year.
Please do come and have a chat with us.
Finally, I look forward to a productive and inspiring year ahead. Together, we can continue to make Borough Green Primary School a place where children flourish academically, socially, and emotionally. Thank you for your ongoing support, and I wish you and your children a successful and rewarding year.
Best wishes
Charles Copping
