RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch 2021
The weekend of 29-31 January is the 2021 RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch and what better time for us all to get involved, while we're spending so much time staring out of the window anyway!
All you need to do is take just one hour at any point across Friday, Saturday or Sunday (29-31 January) and make a note of how many of each sort of bird you can see in your garden. Ignore any birds that are still in flight. To avoid double-counting, just record the highest number of each bird species you see at any one time – not a running total.
Then you send your finding to the RSPB to help them monitor bird movement, habits and health across the country. Even if you see very small numbers (or no birds), it's still vital data that builds a picture of how our native wildlife are doing - or what help the might need.
There are full details on the RSPB website as well as lots of other bird related activities for children.
Below are instructions and bird watching sheets to help you and your children identify the birds that visit your garden.
There are also some other activities to enjoy and even more are available on the RSPB website.
I hope you enjoy this year's birdwatch. Perhaps you could send us a picture of your trainee ornithologists in action.
