Dear Parents and Children,

Welcome to Terms 5 and 6 at Borough Green Primary School.

Learning Curriculum

Maths: We will be following the topics in the New Curriculum for years 1 and 2.  Our topics will be Number and Place Value, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Measures (including capacity, money and time), Data Handling, Fractions and Shape.

Literacy: This term we are exploring texts that relate to our new Learning Experiences and will include Aesop’s Fables, animal poetry and twisted Fairy Tales. Later in the term we will be exploring Oliver Twist and holiday stories including The Famous Five.

Geography and History: We will be thinking about hot and cold climates in Geography. We will also be finding out about a local historical figure, Charles Dickens and later in the Term learning about the Battle of Hastings including a school trip to Battle Abbey.

Science: Our work this term is based on animal habitats in our current Learning Experience, ‘Location, Location, Location’.

RE: This term we will continue to learn more about Christianity with an emphasis on Christianity in Art.

DT and Art: In Design and Technology we will be designing and making a bug hotel and creating an animal puppet. In Art we will be looking at different artists and the way they have represented self-portraits. We will also be recreating the Bayeaux Tapestry during our Battle Abbey experience and we will explore religious paintings too.

In Computing we will be creating bar graphs and pictograms based on our bug data and in Term 6 we will be designing a simple Computer game.

Please refer to the school website for additional information regarding the curriculum for Years 1 and 2.

In Term 6 we will go on our School Trip and welcome you to join us at the KS1 Sports Day.

Please note that Maths homework will now consist of a worksheet to complete, rather than a MyMaths activity. You can still log on to MyMaths to revise Number.

Kind regards,

Mrs Brown, Mrs Wibroe and Mrs Austen
