Year 1 & 2 - Bay, Myrtle and Willow classes

Dear Parents and Children,

Welcome to Term 6 at Borough Green Primary School.

Learning Curriculum

Maths: We will be following the strands contained within the National Curriculum for Maths for years 1 and 2.  Our topics will be a recap of Number and Place Value, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. The main focus of the learning will be about Measures (including capacity, money and time) and Data Handling.

Literacy: This term we will be exploring texts that relate to our new Learning Experiences and will include George and the Dragon and Wombat Goes Walkabout.  We will also be writing a recount about our school trip to Battle Abbey and writing an information leaflet about weather and climate.

History: We will be looking at the historical event of the Battle of Hastings through the historical source of the Bayeaux Tapestry and by visiting Battle Abbey to see the site of the battle first hand. We will also be considering chronology and adding historical events to a timeline, using the people and events we have learnt about this year. We will look at what changed following the Battle of Hastings and learn about mote and bailey castles.

Geography: Our work this term is based around weather and climate. We will be identifying hot and cold places around the world in relation to the equator and the North and South Pole. We will also look at daily and seasonal weather in the UK.

DT and Art: In Design and Technology, we will be designing and making a moving picture. This will incorporate levers, wheels and pop up parts. We will also create a model of a mote and bailey castle. In Art, we will be creating a sculpture using recycled plastic as part of a whole school Art project. We will be drawing figures of people in motion too. We will also discuss the techniques used to create a tapestry and complete weaving with different materials.

Forest School: We will be making a bow and arrow as part of our learning about the Battle of Hastings.

Please refer to the school website for additional information regarding the curriculum for Years 1 and 2.
